From Demo Spectacles to Global Deployment: Humanoid Robots Take a Giant Leap toward Large-Scale Commercialization – Shanghai Humanoid Robot Show Opens on December 9, a Year-End Grand Gathering of the Entire Industry Chain

2026 is widely regarded by the industry as the pivotal inaugural year for the commercial rollout of humanoid robots. As the year’s flagship procurement event wrapping up the humanoid robot industry calendar, the 2026 Shanghai International Humanoid Robot & Full Robot Industry Chain Exhibition (referred to as the Shanghai Humanoid Robot Show) will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from December 9 to 11.


With the theme of “Reshaping the humanoid robot industry chain”, the exhibition covers a planned display area of 24,000 square metres and brings together over 400 core industry players worldwide. It builds an industrial hub integrating product showcases, technical breakthroughs, supply-demand matchmaking, global market expansion and capital empowerment, witnessing the critical leap of humanoid robots from technical prototypes to factory workstations and from the domestic market toward the global blue ocean.

2026 witnesses leapfrog growth in China’s humanoid robot industry. Industry data shows that China’s humanoid robot shipments surged in the first half of the year, accounting for 97% of the global market. The industry has formally moved past flashy lab demonstrations and entered a pragmatic new phase featuring mass production deployment, in-depth scenario development and global expansion. Transitioning from technical prototypes to factory workstations and from the domestic market toward the global blue ocean, the entire industrial chain is reaching a historic turning point for transformation.


Supported by multi-dimensional policies, China’s humanoid robot industrial ecosystem is taking shape at an accelerated pace. At the national level, a special initiative for real-scenario training of humanoid robots and embodied intelligence is being fully rolled out. It aims to refine 100 high-value application scenarios within the year and drive the deployment of products at the ten-thousand-unit scale. China’s first Standard System for Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence (2026 Edition) has been released, filling the gap in top-level standard design across the full industrial chain. Dedicated tech insurance has been launched to underpin risk protection for real-world product applications. This forms a policy package of “scenario-driven development, standard-led progress and financial backing”, pushing robots from “performing demos” to “executing operational tasks”.

Leveraging its robust industrial foundation and well-defined development goals, Shanghai has emerged as a core incubator for China’s humanoid robot industry. Under the Three-Year Action Plan to Support the Transformation and Upgrading of Advanced Manufacturing, Shanghai has set a target of deploying 100,000 humanoid robots into factories by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.


The city is home to more than 3,000 enterprises related to the robotics industrial chain. Centered in Zhangjiang, nearly 150 embodied intelligence firms cluster here. The national-local joint Humanoid Robot Innovation Center is based in this area, equipped with a virtual-physical integrated training ground for embodied intelligence and a municipal pilot-testing service platform. It offers full-chain services including prototyping, testing and scenario validation open to the whole industry, effectively addressing widespread industry pain points: difficulties in prototype deployment, unstable mass production and high testing costs.


Diversified industrial carriers and continuously accessible real-world application scenarios make Shanghai an ideal testbed for the technical iteration and commercial validation of humanoid robots.

Against the wave of large-scale production of complete robots, the strength of China’s domestic supply chain continues to unfold. At present, China has established a complete supporting system covering every link from core chips, servo drives, sensors and large-model algorithms to complete-machine integration, boasting remarkable comprehensive manufacturing advantages.


Industry data shows that domestic complete-machine manufacturers account for the vast majority of global shipment volumes, with leading enterprises ramping up production. Expanding overseas market opportunities have turned global expansion from an optional corporate strategy into an imperative.


Overseas expansion in this sector has moved beyond simple product export, entering a new phase featuring local production base deployment, localized adaptation and ecosystem export. Mass-production bases in Europe have gone into operation, joint ventures in the Middle East have been launched, and scenario-based orders from multiple countries have been secured one after another. Chinese humanoid robots have officially embarked on a new stage of global layout.


Meanwhile, the global expansion journey still faces multiple challenges including overseas compliance certification, localized operation & maintenance, and data security. The industrial chain urgently needs to build efficient matchmaking platforms to connect domestic technical capabilities with overseas market demands.

Facing the real pain points of the industry head-on, this Shanghai Humanoid Robot Show breaks away from the conventional exhibition model. It centers on core industry challenges including insufficient generalisation capability of robot bodies, high costs for secondary development, big-small brain coordination, mass production cost reduction, domestic substitution of components, and market expansion at home and abroad.


Covering the full value chain from core components, embodied intelligence algorithms, robot bodies, system integration to industry-specific scenario solutions, the exhibition will host the global debut and live on-site testing of a large batch of upgraded new products. Dozens of industry summits, technical seminars and developer conferences will be held concurrently, bringing together academicians, experts, leading enterprises and research institutes for in-depth discussions on manufacturing processes, standard formulation, scenario deployment and compliant global expansion.


The show selectively invites professional visitors such as manufacturing end-users, system integrators, distributors, research institutions and investment firms. It features one-on-one business meetings, dedicated supply-demand matching sessions, industrial project roadshows and strategic signing ceremonies to create two-way connections between robot OEMs and their upstream and downstream suppliers. To meet globalisation needs, dedicated business matchmaking events will be organised for China-Europe, China-Japan, China-South Korea, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, alongside a global embodied intelligence industry chain cooperation & overseas expansion matchmaking session. These events consolidate overseas procurement demands and help Chinese robot brands connect with global market resources, enabling the leap from domestic production lines to workstations worldwide.


At this critical juncture for forward-looking industrial planning under the 15th Five-Year Plan, humanoid robots, a core track for future industries, are seeing the convergence of technology, capital, market and policy drivers. As prototypes once under the spotlight continuously move into real working positions in factories, warehousing & logistics, emergency rescue and energy inspection, and as humanoid robots “Made in China” are shipped to all corners of the globe in batches, a transformation in future productivity is underway.
